Just north of Amsterdam you will find the old fishing villages Volendam and Marken, where the villagers still wear their traditional costumes and earn a living with fishing.

A visit to a wooden shoe and a cheese factory are of course other essential parts of a traditional visit to the Netherlands!

Or take a look at the 'Zaanse Schans', where the hands of time have stopped in the 17th or 18th century: charming wooden houses with nice gardens, bridges, shops, museums and of course windmills!
